"An hour of winter day might
seem too short
To make it worth life's while to wake and sport."
Robert Frost
It is true, a winter's daylight does not last
very long. Here in New Hampshire, our winter has been very
sunny so far with only a few winter storms. Yes, we have had
snow, but also a couple of winter thaws. It truly seems that
Spring is just around the corner. So, while the boats have
been put to bed for now, we are all looking forward to a new
season of boating fun.
Top on our list of fun events is our Spring
Romp. This year, it will be held again at the home of
Charley and Ilona Train. Join us on Saturday, June 12th. A
copy of the registration form for this event is on our web
site at necacbs.org. We will also mail a form to members in
late Spring.
The highlight of our Club's events is the
37th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Boat Show in Meredith on July
23 and 24, 2010. We are featuring Chris-Craft boats as the
marque boat this year. Joining our Chief Judge, Chris
Johnson, is Brian Robinson of the Chris Craft Antique Boat
Club. Brian has graciously agreed to serve as our Chief
Chris-Craft Judge. Chris and Brian, along with Bo Muller,
our past Chief Judge, will discuss the new Antique and
Classic Boat Show rules at our Judging Clinic on July 23.
Then, on the day of the Show, Tony Mollica, who is the
co-author, along with Chris Smith, of a new book called
Building Chris-Craft: Inside the Factories will also be
our special guest. Tony will give a talk on Chris Smith and
his very special boats at the Saturday Awards Dinner. You
will find the Registration Form for the Show in this issue
and on our web site.
Returning this year is the Fall Boat and Car
Rendezvous at the Wolfeboro public docks on Saturday,
September 25, 2010. Our new Vice President, Dennis Schauer,
has agreed to assist us in putting on this popular event. If
you would like to help out, please let Dennis know.
A new activity has been suggested by several
members. The Board is currently considering the publication
of a hard cover book highlighting the boats of NEC active
members. We believe this is a way to preserve information
about our antique boats as well as to serve as a great
fundraiser for the Chapter. There will be a modest fee to
have your boat and your story included in the book so that
the costs of publication might be defrayed. We will give you
more information about how to have your boat included in a
future issue of the Cutwater.
While winter days do not provide a lot of
time for boating, we can't wait to have you join the fun
this year as we plan this year's events. Don't forget, we
are always looking for volunteers. Please call me or e-mail
me if you want to participate in any way. Keep warm and
remember that your boat will be in the water in a matter of
a few short months!
