July 30, 2011 - Meredith Public Docks

This year's 38th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique & Classic Boat Show at the Meredith public docks was a huge gathering of beautiful antique and classic boats, with large crowds and well over 70 vintage boats on display all day in a at the docks and in the Hesky Park area. This was quite a sight to behold, and for a special treat the crowds arrived early at the Meredith town docks on Saturday morning to watch and listen as the vintage boats arrived under their own power. There was also a large  display of antique & classic boats in the Hesky Park area, along with our new Field of Dreams of vintage boats for sale. The sights and sounds were magnificent, and to get an idea of the magnitude of this annual gathering of wooden boats, please take a moment to view our photo album from this year's Lake Winnipesaukee Antique & Classic Boat Show.

The 2011 Participants

Friday Judging Clinic & Registration - July 29, 2011

For participants, the activities started with a Judging Clinic on Friday afternoon at 3 pm.  Chris Johnson reviewed the new 2010 changes to the ACBS Judging Guidelines. We had a good turnout of very interested judges and participants. There were many questions, and Chris took the time to explain the rules and the reasoning behind the rule changes. Bo Muller was also very helpful last year, and relayed many of his judging experiences and humorous stories. The two create a synergy, and have agreed to alternate every year as the Chief Judge of our annual ACBS boat show.

On Friday afternoon, our one required barge arrived right on time at 4 pm and set their long 40 spuds, after being properly lined up by our Dock Meister, Donnie Mclean. Many thanks to Paul Goodwin and the crew at Watermark Marine Construction for donating their services and use of their barge. The barge is used to secure the end of a spring line that we run down the centerline of the docks. We then tie the antique and classic boats stern-to the docks, and can fit 64 boats in the first boat well. That leaves plenty of room at the other docks for the 26 foot and larger boats.

After the Judging Clinic Boat, the participants started arriving at 5 pm to pickup their registrations packets and for the opening social reception, complete with live music.

Saturday Boat Show - July 30, 2011

The boat show was held on Saturday at the Meredith public docks with a gathering of antique and classic boats on display all day in a judged competition. The show was open to the public and as usual, the weather was sunny and hot as we fill the Meredith public docks and the Hesky Park area with beautiful antique & classic boats. This 38th annual boat show was presented by the New England Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, a very active local group of over 300 active members. Gerri Prusko is the president of our local chapter, Bill John was the boat show chairman, and Chris Johnson was the chief judge this year. Donnie McLean was the dock master and we had an army of volunteers wearing brown t-shirts.

The setup and docking crew arrived right on time at 5:30 am, and after we setup the judges tent the rest of the volunteers arrived just in time for breakfast. Lots of hot coffee and breakfast sandwiches. All the volunteers were wearing brown boat show t-shirts and as these photos below show, it was sunny and hot, and we all had a good time !!!

Rick Fileau and Gary Michael spent the whole day managing the launch ramp and traffic flow. The boats started to arrive at 6 am, some at the ramp for trailer launching but most arrived under their own power, enjoying a magnificent boat ride on the way to the 38th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Boat Show. It was a beautiful sunny morning and the lake was absolutely flat.

This year we had the exclusive use of the grassy Hesky Park area, and we filled it with beautiful antique & classic boats. New this year was our Field of Dreams - Antique & Classic Boats For Sale.

2011 Award Winners !!!

A special thank you - to all our volunteers....

A special thank you to Gerri Prusko, our Chapter President for the many, many hours, the emails, the phone calls, and all the last minute scrambling for registration for boats and for socials. Gerri maintains all the spreadsheets for the registered boats, judging sheets and socials.

Donnie McLean and his dock crew did a great job again this year, receiving and staging all the beautiful antique and classic boats. Each boat was handled with great care, everyone came ashore safely and not a boat was scratched.

Rick Fileau and Gary Michael spent the whole day managing the launch ramp and traffic flow. Rick has been the unsung hero at many of our ACBS events over the years and as usual, Rick and Gary were the last to leave the docks.

Many thanks to Chris Johnson for the well attended Judging Clinic on Friday afternoon. Then on Saturday Chris spent the day managing the judging teams, reviewing each score sheet and determining the award winners. A very tedious job, well done.

And many thanks to all the volunteers who made our 38th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique & Classic Boat Show a huge success. We have already started planning for next year's 39th annual boat show, when the featured marque with be Century Boats. And if local permits allow, we would like to reserve the entire parking lot at the docks to display Antique & Classic Cars, along with our expanded use of the Hesky Park area. New this year was our new sound system, playing some nice 1940's swing and big-band music in the background. A nice touch.

On a personal note, this was my third year as the Chairman and my 32nd boat show, having participated in every boat show since 1979, when I aquired my Gar Wood Speedster Obsession
