A tribute and celebration of Janice Hayes

We are sorry to report the passing of Janice Hayes on August 28, 2010 due to a tragic accident. Janice was one of the hardest working volunteers in our chapter and served for many years as the registrar for our annual ACBS Lake Winnipesaukee Boat Show. She was tireless in her efforts on behalf of our chapter. Janice worked alongside her husband Scott, at their boat shop, High Gloss Restorations in Gilford, NH. Many chapter members will remember the enthusiasm and professionalism that Janice added to our events.

Janice was trained as a nurse and worked for many years in the medical field. Recently, she joined her husband at his boat shop, restoring beautiful wooden boats.

At this year's boat show, Jan and Scott also donated the canvas bags for all the registrants as their donation to the show. This was in addition to their volunteer work as registrar and the use on their cruiser Comfy at the show for late registrations. Comfy was recently restored by Scott and this year they acquired the boat and were eager to bring it to our 37th annual Lake Winnipesaukee ACBS Boat Show. Jan gave anyone who asked a tour of the boat, which is a special 29 foot Chris Craft Cruiser built in 1950. This photo of Janice was taken at the show this summer and is how we must always remember her, always smiling and always helping others, an inspiration to us all.

Janice was raised in Georgia and she never really lost her Southern accent. That went along with her generous personality and hometown friendliness. Jan was always one of the first to offer to help whenever a chapter event needed organizing. She handled all the paperwork flawlessly and never stressed as late registrations were called in at the last minute.

On behalf of the Chapter, a contribution has been made to the Gilford Fire Rescue Department and the Gilford Police Department. Our sincerest sympathy go out to her family and friends.

And on a personal note, Janice was the unsung hero of our annual ACBS boat show for many years, and now it is time to celebrate Janice. Our fondest memory of her was at our recent ACBS Board Meeting where she was honored and received a standing ovation from her peers for her many years of volunteer work. Janice was absolutely beaming and we shall always cherish the time that she shared with us. Thank you and may God bless you Janice, for you have touched more people in your life than you could have ever imagined.
