35th Annual ACBS International Meeting & Boat Show

The 35th Annual ACBS International Meeting and Boat Show took place on September 15-18, 2010 at the beautiful Bay Harbor Resort located in upper Michigan. This show was open to the public and thousands of spectators come to see some of the most unique and beautiful antique and classic water-craft in the country. Well over 150 boats were displayed on at the docks and on land. There were also great displays from sponsors of the event on the lawn panel. This was an ACBS judged boat show, with winners in many categories.

It was a two day trek from Wolfeboro, NH to Bay Harbor in upper Michigan, but we arrived safe and sound and stayed all week at the historic Walloon Lake Inn just minutes from Bay Harbor. The Inn also has a steamboat ???!!!

On Monday, our group of adventurous souls launched our beautiful wooden boats and spent the day on the water with lunch at the Yacht Club. It was a good day !!!

On Tuesday we spent the day in nearby Charlevoix, with more boat rides in the morning, a tour of John Winn's boathouse in the afternoon and a chicken BBQ in the evening. Many thanks to our gracious host, John Winn.

On Wednesday we spent the morning touring Van Dam Custom Boats in nearby Boyne City. Many thanks to Steve Van Dam and his crew for taking the time to explain how they design and build their beautiful boats. They are absolutely stunning, and they are packed with lots of horsepower !!!

On Wednesday afternoon we trekked up north over the Mackinaw Bridge to the upper peninsular of Michigan to Cedarville for a tour of the Great Lakes Boatbuilding School.

On the way back to Bay Harbor we stopped at Hessel, home of E. J. Mertaugh Boat Works the very first dealer for Chris Craft Boats, way back in 1925. Hessel is also the location of one of the largest ACBS Boat Shows in the country. They packed the docks with well over 100 boats at this year's boat show !!!

On Thursday we spent all day inside attending our 35th Annual ACBS International Meeting. This was excellent planning, as it poured all day outside. Then on Friday and Saturday the sun came back out for the International Boat Show. We had two absolutely stunning days and the dock were filled with over 150 beautiful antique and classic boats. It was a great boat show !!!

These two 1946 and 1947 Gar Wood Sedans are very, very rare. Only eight were built and these are the only two that still exist today. They were displayed together for the first after leaving the Gar Wood factory, where they were built side by side.

And then there was the duck boat.

After a very week of boats rides, meetings and the International boat show, the awards ceremony and dinner were held on Saturday evening at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club where our New England Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society received two International awards.
